Green Lantern Fan Theory Debunked for Superman DCU Movie

A popular Superman fan theory involving a Green Lantern character has been debunked.

Superman finally flies into United States theaters in just a couple of weeks. Written and directed by James Gunn, the DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures movie stars David Corenswet as the titular Man of Steel, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.

What Superman Green Lantern fan theory has been debunked?

During Superman’s production, set photos that show Corenswet’s Superman seemingly talking to a squirrel emerged online. Some fans believed that Ch’p, a fan-favorite Green Lantern character, could be making an appearance in the DCU film.

Gunn has recently commented on the matter, however, and it seems that the squirrel is really just a squirrel.

“I think, in the world of the DCU, there’s not only black-and-white villains and heroes, there’s all sorts of shades of grey,” he told Brandon Davis. “The Justice Gang in the movie — who they call themselves, although they don’t all agree to that name — they work for a corporation. It’s a little bit wild. They’re willing to kill, if they need to. That’s just who they are. Which makes sense. But to have the opposite in Superman, someone who considers every life sacred — whether it’s a human, a flying dog, or a squirrel. I wanted to show that the most important thing for him in that situation is not winning, it’s not beating the monster. It is saving all of the people in harm’s path.”

While Ch’p may not be showing up in Superman, there’s the possibility that he could be part of the Lanterns television series that is expected to arrive in 2026. That show stars Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan, Aaron Pierre as John Stewart, and Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, among others.

Superman hits theaters and IMAX on July 11, 2025.
