Stephen King Movie Stars Mark Hamill

Lionsgate has shared another The Long Walk trailer for its upcoming film adaptation of Stephen King‘s dystopian thriller novel of the same name. It is currently slated to arrive in theaters on September 12, 2025.

“The story takes place in the future in which 100 teenage boys embark on an annual competition known as ‘The Long Walk,’” reads the synopsis. “The rules are simple: maintain a speed above 4 miles per hour. Receive three warnings in an hour and you’re shot dead. The last one walking gets whatever he wants for the rest of his life. Under these grim circumstances the boys develop deep friendships despite knowing that each of their friends’ survival is a threat to their own.”

The video introduces Star Wars vet Mark Hamill as the movie’s main antagonist. He is a high-ranking military officer who oversees the government’s annual contest, which requires young men to participate in a death march. It highlights some of the movie’s intense sequences, teasing the physical and mental challenges that the boys will have to face during the competition.

The movie is directed by Francis Lawrence from a screenplay written by JT Mollner. The filmmaker is no stranger to this kind of genre, after working on The Hunger Games franchise, which also mostly centers around the government enlisting young people for a survival competition.

Besides Hamill, the cast will also feature Judy Greer, Cooper Hoffman, David Jonsson, Garrett Wareing, Tut Nyuot, Charlie Plummer, Ben Wang, Roman Griffin Davis, Jordan Gonzalez, Joshua Odjick, and Josh Hamilton. It is produced by Roy Lee, Steven Schneider, Francis Lawrence, and Cameron MacConomy.
