What happens in The Conjuring: Last Rites video?

The video highlights franchise stars Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga‘s journey as Ed and Lorraine Warren, who were first introduced in the 2013 movie The Conjuring. The featurette also provides fans with the behind-the-scenes look at the upcoming new sequel, which is expected to wrap up Ed and Lorraine’s story arc. It also teases their most darkest and personal case yet, involving the famous hauntings of the Smurl family.

The Conjuring: Last Rites will be directed by Michael Chaves from a screenplay written by Ian Goldberg and Richard Naing, based on story by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick and franchise creator James Wan. Besides Wilson and Farmiga, the latest installment will also be led by Mia Tomlinson as Judy Warren and Ben Hardy as Tony Spera. Joining them are Elliot Cowan, Madison Lawlor, Orion Smith, Beau Gadsdon, Peter Wight, Kate Fahy, Kíla Lord Cassidy, and more. The film is produced by Wan and Peter Safran, with Michael Clear and Judson Scott serving as executive producers.

According to EW, the movie will take place in 1986, when Ed and Lorraine have already retired from their exorcist business after the former suffered a heart attack during the events of 2021’s The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It. The case that will bring them back from retirement centers around the Smurl family, who started experiencing supernatural occurences after moving into a new home which is somehow reminiscent of the first installment’s Perron family case.
