James Gunn has opened up about his involvement in the upcoming Coyote vs. Acme, revealing how much his original story ideas for the movie influenced the final production.
What did James Gunn do for Coyote vs. Acme?
Gunn recently took to Threads to interact with fans. After being asked about his dislike of co-writing, Gunn acknowledged he doesn’t know how to do it and prefers not to. “I don’t know how to co-write,” said Gunn. “I rewrite and have been rewritten but I don’t really co-write. But you never know, maybe someday.”
Gunn was then asked how that could be if he co-wrote some of Coyote vs. Acme. Gunn revealed he didn’t, but did provide “a story” that writer Jeremy Slater “used as a basis for the first screenplay.” The DC Studios co-head went on to note that elements from that story might still be in the movie, but not to a large degree.
“Oh there are elements from the basic story but Samy Burch is definitely the primary screenwriter and she did a wonderful job!” Gunn said.

In March, it was announced that Warner Bros. Discovery and Ketchup Entertainment — who just recently also released the sci-fi animated comedy The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie — had come to an agreement on an acquisition deal for the movie. The movie has no official release date as of yet.
Coyote vs. Acme is directed by Dave Green from a screenplay written by Sam Burch. The film is led by Will Forte, John Cena, Lana Condor, P.J. Byrne, Tone Bell, and Martha Kelly, with Eric Bauza voicing multiple Looney Tunes characters. It is produced by Chris deFaria and James Gunn.
“The film centers on Wile E. Coyote as he takes legal action against the Acme Corporation for the countless faulty products that have hindered his relentless pursuit of the Road Runner,” reads the official synopsis.
