Jesse Eisenberg’s Reason for Passing on The Social Network 2 Revealed

Jesse Eisenberg won’t be returning to play Mark Zuckerberg in the upcoming The Social Network 2, and according to a new report, we have some information as to why.

Why did Jesse Eisenberg pass on The Social Network 2?

According to a new report from Jeff Sneider of The InSneider, Eisenberg didn’t pass on the film for any monetary or artistic reason, but instead due to David Fincher not being involved in the project. Fincher directed the original The Social Network, and won’t be involved in the sequel.

Sneider’s report also notes that Eisenberg may not have wanted his career to be “defined” by playing Zuckerberg. Although the role took Eisenberg to superstardom, he has since appeared in a number of high-profile roles.

Currently, little is known about The Social Network 2. The movie is believed to “focus on how the company’s own reporting pointed to the negative effects the company’s social media was having on teens and kids, how it knew misinformation was proliferating and causing violence, and how it contributed to the coup attempt of Jan. 6, 2021.”

Although casting is not confirmed as of right now, a number of stars are reported to be involved in the project. These include Succession’s Jeremy Strong, who is in talks to lead the film as Zuckerberg, as well as Jeremy Allen White and Mikey Madison, who are both also said to be top choices to star in the film.
