Jensen Ackles, who plays Ben / Soldier Boy in The Boys, gave an update on the filming for Season 5, hinting in the process when it might come out. Based on the namesake comic book series by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, The Boys premiered on Prime Video on July 26, 2019.
Seasons 2, 3, and 4 debuted on September 4, 2020, June 3, 2022, and June 13, 2024, respectively. In May 2024, before the release of the fourth season, Prime Video greenlit the fifth and final season of the show.
Jensen Ackles’ filming update hints at The Boys Season 5 release date window
Jensen Ackles revealed in an interview with CBR that he believed filming for Season 5 would wrap next month. “I just finished The Boys on Tuesday, [June 10th], and I think I’ve got all my stuff done. But I don’t know. You never know. They might have to bring me back for some other stuff,” he shared. The fifth season entered production in November last year.
In July 2024, Karl Urban, the actor who essays the role of William “Billy” Butcher, indicated in an Instagram post that Season 5 could arrive in 2026. Combining that with what Ackles said and the release pattern of the recent seasons, it’s safe to speculate that the fifth season might premiere on Prime Video in June 2026. Prime Video hasn’t officially announced the release date at the time of this writing.
In the post-credits scene of the Season 4 finale, Antony Starr’s John / Homelander learned that Soldier Boy was still alive and held captive by the US government. This indicated that Ackles would reprise his role in the last chapter of the show.
Ackles previously worked with The Boys creator and showrunner Eric Kripke on The WB / The CW series Supernatural. His two prominent co-stars from that show, Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins, are part of the Season 5 cast. Additionally, returning cast members include Jack Quaid as Hugh “Hughie” Campbell Jr., Erin Moriarty as Annie January / Starlight, and Laz Alonso as Marvin T. “Mother’s” Milk / M.M.
